The seeds of Theatreplan as it exists today were sown in 1985, when Richard Brett, regarded by many as one of the founders of the profession of theatre consultant, established his own theatre consultancy.
The practice grew quickly and its technical design capability and flair for innovation was recognised when awarded a number of major commissions in the late-1990s, including the technical upgrade of London’s Royal Opera House, the refurbishment of the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, and the contract to design the Kwai Tsing Theatre in Hong Kong.
Almost 20 years on from its first project the practice, now incorporated as Theatreplan LLP, completed its largest project to date – the theatre planning and technical design of Copenhagen Opera House.
Following the success in Copenhagen, we continued to win major UK and international commissions. As well as beginning our long association with Sydney Opera House we completed award-winning projects in Melbourne, Singapore, and closer to home, we designed the RIBA Stirling Prize short-listed Lyric Theatre in Belfast.
Theatreplan continues to develop and we established offices in both Hong Kong and Sydney in 2014.
