Barry Pritchard

Barry has 40 years experience dedicated to creating theatres, concert halls as well as arts centres and he has contributed to the design and delivery of over 40 significant projects.

They range in size and complexity from 200 seat drama studios to 2500 seat opera houses. They include award winning new buildings and the conservation of some of the best loved performance venues including; The Old Vic, Donmar Warehouse, Sadler’s Wells, English National Opera, the Bridgewater Hall and most recently the £89m Milton Court for the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and a part of London’s Barbican Arts Centre.

Barry has always had a keen interest in theatre, and was an active member of the National Youth Theatre. After qualifying as an architect and obtaining a masters degree in architectural conservation from Edinburgh College of Art, Barry has successfully combined these passions – delivering buildings where the making of theatre and performance is possible.

Barry has a particular expertise in creating auditoria and stages for drama, opera and dance with a welcoming front of house design and efficient backstage planning. Barry was a key contributor to ABTT/Routledge’s ‘Theatre Buildings – a design guide’ that was published in June 2010. In November 2015 Barry was made an Associate of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain.
