Paul is an experienced business and financial administrator with a strong background in theatre and the arts. Initially engaged as Practice Manager in London, he is now a director working out of our Hong Kong office.
Paul gained his BA in Drama at the University of Manchester following a 15-year career in business management and finance in a variety of sectors, including engineering and education. This combination of skills and training attracted him to a managerial role at The Theatres Trust, the UK government’s Advisory Public Body for Theatres, where he worked as Administrator from 1996 to 2012. His duties included financial management, procurement, policy development and liaison with funding bodies, including English Heritage and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. He was also editor of the Trust’s quarterly journal, Theatres Magazine.
Paul joined Theatreplan in London as Practice Manager in January 2013, taking responsibility for general office management, business development, marketing and personnel matters, as well as establishing new working procedures.
He relocated to Hong Kong in July 2015, where he is managing all administrative and financial functions and working alongside Robin Auld to develop new business.
In a freelance capacity Paul also edits Sightline, the journal of Theatre Technology and Design, published by the Association of British Theatre Technicians.
“Paul’s previous experience in administration and management in our sector, backed up by his degree in drama, and qualifications in business and finance, is very relevant to our practice, and his contacts with key theatre industry bodies such as English Heritage and The Theatres Trust are invaluable.”
